Spiritual Direction Agreement

Purpose of this agreement

This agreement outlines the nature of our spiritual direction relationship, what you can expect from me as your spiritual director, and what I ask of you as a directee.

Spiritual direction is a sacred and confidential practice. This agreement ensures we both understand the boundaries, ethics, and commitments that guide our work together.

  • Spiritual direction is a contemplative practice in which one person (the directee) explores their relationship with the divine with the support of a trained companion (the spiritual director).

    The focus is on:

    • Your experience of the sacred in daily life

    • Deepening your awareness of the divine presence

    • Discerning the movement of Spirit in your life

    • Supporting your spiritual growth and healing

  • Spiritual direction is not:

    • Psychotherapy or counseling — While we may touch on emotional or psychological experiences, spiritual direction focuses on your relationship with the divine, not mental health treatment

    • Problem-solving or advice-giving — I will not tell you what to do or make decisions for you

    • Religious instruction — I am not here to teach doctrine or convert you to any particular belief system

    • Crisis intervention — If you are in crisis, I will support you in connecting with appropriate mental health or emergency services

  • Everything shared in spiritual direction is confidential, with the following exceptions:

    • If you disclose intent to harm yourself or others

    • If there is suspected abuse of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult

    • If required by law

I will not share information about our sessions with anyone without your written consent.

  • As your spiritual director, I commit to:
